This 'Ginger Beer Plant' as it is properly called is not the usual/common Ginger Beer Bug or plant that people commonly make at home from fresh or ground ginger that relies on yeasts to do the fermenting.
Rather it is a primarily bacterial culture similar to Water Kefir or Tibicos that is a softish polysaccharide crystal of bacteria and yeast that can be quite sensitive to variations of environment and ingredients.
It is also very slow growing (unlike water kefir) and has a very small grain size so needs to be looked after carefully and thoughtfully (use a very fine mesh sieve to strain).
It is therefore a tricky culture to maintain and get a good flavour from so we recommend this for the more experienced and patient brewer only.
Please also note that this culture is supplied as 1 generous Tablespoon of dehydrated granuals/grains and needs to be rehydrated in water first.
